*Some call it a quiet time. We call it a Vision Quest. This is a simple Bible study to help you along your journey of discovering God’s purpose for your life.

Noah stayed faithful and focused on God in the midst of the corrupt world that he lived in.

This is the account of Noah and his family. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God.

Genesis 6:9

Noah was already in good standing with God. He stood out from the crowd and God blessed him for it. God blesses those who stay faithful to him.

What is faithfulness? How can you change to become faithful?

Read and obey your bible every day and have a friend who can keep you accountable.

God and Sin Can’t Coexist

Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight and was full of violence. God saw how corrupt the earth had become, for all the people on earth had corrupted their ways. So God said to Noah, “I am going to put an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. I am surely going to destroy both them and the earth. So make yourself an ark of cypress wood; make rooms in it and coat it with pitch inside and out.

Genesis 6:11-14

God doesn’t tolerate sin. He was willing to destroy the whole world because of his hatred of sin. This really shows that God hates it and will do anything to get rid of it. Even with everyone around him sinning, Noah still stayed faithful and put his relationship with God first.

What do you think God thinks about your sin? What can you do practically to change?

Get open about your sin with friends and ask for advice on how to change it.

What Company Do You Keep?

Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.”

1 Corinthians 15:33

It is easy to be misled by bad company. Noah was able to overcome the bad company around him and focus on being close to God.

Are your friends influencing you for good or for the worse?

Start building relationships with people who are going to influence you positively. Study out the word “character” in the bible and work on building character in your life.

Faith In God Will Take You Far

By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that is in keeping with faith.

Hebrews 11:7

Noah’s relationship with God gave him the faith to trust God and build the ark that would later save the lives of him and his family. Noah feared God and chose to listen to God rather than ignore him.

Do you trust God’s vision for your life?

Pray for God to show you his vision for your life.

The God of Fresh Starts

Then God said to Noah and to his sons with him: “I now establish my covenant with you and with your descendants after you and with every living creature that was with you—the birds, the livestock and all the wild animals, all those that came out of the ark with you—every living creature on earth. I establish my covenant with you: Never again will all life be destroyed by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth.”

Genesis 9:8-11

Noah’s choice to follow God allowed him to begin a new world. God decided that destroying the whole world was not a situation he wanted to have again so he promised Noah that he wouldn’t ever flood the world again. God loves giving people fresh starts. Noah starting the world over again was a chance for him to have a fresh start for himself.

In what area of your life do you need a fresh start? How can God help you to get that fresh start?

Write down 5 areas that you feel you need a fresh start and pray for God to give it to you. Ask people to help you to figure out practical ways to get a fresh start.

Challenge:

  • Pray through emotions – Be specific and use an emotions chart or emotions journal – take 5 minutes to write out what you’re feeling.
  • Pray with focus – Find a cool spot, away from distractions to pray – take a friend with you and help each other pray
  • Pray throughout the day – on your way to a class, or to the bathroom – take breaks and remember to pray – even if it’s just 1 min.

Activity:

  • Listen to a certain song – think about God while you listen to the lyrics, write a song or poem, go on a prayer walk with a friend

Get help from a friend to learn how to pray. Pray together multiple times in the week.
