Every college student knows the feeling… when you have 10 hours of work to do, but only 3 hours available. It’s all a matter of focus.

As a college student, it can be overwhelming trying to work a job, maintain good grades, stay in shape, and balance relationships. Sometimes I have felt like there aren’t enough hours in the day to accomplish what I want to get done. And distractions are everywhere! Distractions are a part of every day life, but they don’t have to keep you from staying focused on what’s important to you.

These tips are easy to follow and will help you stay focused:

1.  Find Some Alone Time

Taking 5-10 minutes to clear your mind and become aware of what you’re feeling and thinking is an invaluable investment for your day. Taking a walk, praying, or even just meditating can be great ways to find peace and a sense of what’s important (and what’s not important) before your day begins.

2.  Own Your Week (Don’t Let It Own You!)

Life as a college student can be fun and unpredictable, but there is great value in looking ahead to maximize your time. Starting with your untouchables (things you absolutely have to do each week), write out what you’ll do with your time and when you’ll do it over the next 5-7 days. Make sure to set aside enough time to complete your schoolwork!

3.  Appreciate the List

No college student likes lists… but seriously, get a notebook and write what needs to get done each day. Seeing what you need to do on paper will increase your chances of actually doing it.

4.  Airplane Mode Is Your Friend

It’s okay to turn off your phone sometimes, especially when doing schoolwork. Most texts and calls can wait, and there’s nothing wrong with taking planned breaks to see what the outside world is up to!

5.  Choose Carefully…

And I’m talking about friends! The people you surround yourself with will either help push you towards your goals or pull you away. Choose your study buddies wisely. You want people who are willing to work hard and keep you accountable.
