When our faith is dead, we need to wake it up! God can revive our faith when we examine our hearts and decide to seek him once again.

Wake Me Up

11 Do this because we live in an important time. It is now time for you to wake up from your sleep, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. 12 The “night” is almost finished, and the “day” is almost here. So we should stop doing things that belong to darkness and take up the weapons used for fighting in the light. 13 Let us live in a right way, like people who belong to the day. We should not have wild parties or get drunk. There should be no sexual sins of any kind, no fighting or jealousy. 14 But clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ and forget about satisfying your sinful self.
Romans 13:11-14 NCV

We can fall asleep spiritually. God wants us to make a difference in the lives of others and do something special with our lives, but how can we do that if our faith is asleep?

Our faith is affected by the condition of our hearts, so let’s look at 3 heart conditions that might have affected our faith.

 1. Are You Unaware?

…I know what you do. People say that you are alive, but really you are dead. 2 Wake up! Strengthen what you have left before it dies completely. I have found that what you are doing is less than what my God wants. 3 So do not forget what you have received and heard. Obey it, and change your hearts and lives. So you must wake up, or I will come like a thief, and you will not know when I will come to you.
Revelation 3:1-3 NCV

When you’re unaware, you don’t want to see or know what is going on in the lives of others. We can pretend we’re alive, but the truth is clear. When you’re heart is alive, you are filled with life, energy, faith, and emotion. But when you’re heart is dead, you walk around each day numb, lifeless, apathetic, cold, and joyless.

2. Are You Unconcerned?

34 Then Jesus explained: “My nourishment comes from doing the will of God, who sent me, and from finishing his work. 35 You know the saying, ‘Four months between planting and harvest.’ But I say, wake up and look around. The fields are already ripe for harvest. 36 The harvesters are paid good wages, and the fruit they harvest is people brought to eternal life. What joy awaits both the planter and the harvester alike!
John 4:34-36 NLT

If you’re unconcerned, that means that you don’t want to care. Doing the will of God is what gives you strength. Living for ourselves leaves us empty and unsatisfied. Who has God been wanting you to care about?

3. Are You Unconscious?

34 You will stagger like a sailor tossed at sea,     clinging to a swaying mast. 35 And you will say, “They hit me, but I didn’t feel it.     I didn’t even know it when they beat me up. When will I wake up     so I can look for another drink?”

Proverbs 23:34-35 NLT

And unconscious heart is one that doesn’t want to feel negative emotion, take responsibility for others, or feel the pressure to help someone. When your heart is unconscious, your are trying to numb the pain and emotions you feel, but you will end up escaping to sin: drinking, drugs, overeating, isolating.

3 Ways to Revive Your Faith

1. Become Compelled

14 For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. 15 And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.2 Corinthians 5:14-15 NIV

Remember the cross. Gratitude wakes our hearts up and reminds us of how much we need God’s love and forgiveness.

2. Become Compassionate

35 Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. 38 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”Matthew 9:35-38 NIV

Who can you love? God puts people in our lives who only we can help, support, and reach.

3. Build Conviction

8 When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples. This brings great glory to my Father.John 15:8 NLT

How can you rearrange your spiritual priorities? Conviction is when you decide to change your heart, desires, and actions to match what God values over your own emotions.

Wake Up Spiritually!

  1. The Power of the Word (Psalm 19:7)… Revives My Soul
  2. The Power of Prayer (Luke 22:29)… Renews My Strength
  3. The Power of Confessing Sin (James 5:16)… Heals My Heart
  4. The Power of Repentance (Acts 3:19)… Refreshes My Life
  5. The Power of Baptism (Acts 2:38)… Forgiveness of My Sins
